To celebrate the various backgrounds of the Crafton Hills College community, the College’s Multicultural Club hosted the first-ever Multicultural Day on campus Thursday, May 5.
Held in Crafton Hall, the special event brought in dozens looking to interact with one another through the learning of fun facts and consuming good eats and drinks, such as boba from San Bernardino-based Viva La Boba and conchas, a type of pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread).
“Crafton has their cultural heritage months and until now didn’t have an event where all of those cultures can come together and where someone can walk into a room and see their culture represented alongside others,” explained Angie Cristobal, a 31-year-old English major from Mentone and president of the Multicultural Club.
Event participants included representatives from Crafton’s library and The Sand Canyon Review, the College’s art and literary publication, which had past issues for guests to peruse. Tables also included interactive writing activities courtesy of the Creative Writing Club and a display about the continent of Asia.
Cristobal said she began organizing Multicultural Day without any expectations and was only hoping for the best. She was not disappointed.
“I think this event was super important for Crafton to have,” she said. “I planned this event from the heart and was hoping for the best, and the best came of it.”
