Fire Academy Graduation

The 108th basic firefighter training academy graduation, held on May 19, recognized 25 cadets whose motto “one team, one dream” shined through. “You are the very best academy I’ve ever seen come through here,” said Chief Mike Alder who followed up that statement by disclosing that he has never said that.

Traditional elements of the graduation ceremony included a bagpipes performance, a keynote address from cadet Joshua Rowell, the presentation of certificates and awards, the delivery of a class plaque, and a final dismissal chant. However, the most memorable part of this celebration was a surprise Ha'akoa warrior dance performed by the cadets as a tribute to Alder who is retiring after a 40-year fire service career and ten years as Chief of the CHC Fire Academy.
