The public is invited to learn more about the Crafton Hills College Foundation and its work during a planned luncheon hosted this Friday.

“This is an opportunity for our foundation to connect with donors, inform key community leaders of the great things we are doing at Crafton, and inspire support from new ‘friends,’ said Michelle Riggs, the foundation’s development director.

The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. in Crafton Hall with a meet and greet. The program begins at noon with remarks from Foundation Vice President Sam Irwin and Elijah Gerard, a current Crafton student and student trustee on the San Bernardino Community College District’s Board of Trustees. KVCR/Empire Network personality Lillian Vasquez will deliver remarks on her experience as a Crafton student and alumni. Lillian hosts her own radio show, Lifestyles with Lillian Vasquez where she had the opportunity to interview authors, musicians, actors, comedians, community leaders. Lifestyles takes a fresh look at arts, culture, and issues in the greater Inland Empire region.

Gerard said being asked to speak at the upcoming event was a surprise because he never considered himself “someone with much of a story to tell.”

“I believe my worldview did not offer much (for) most people,” he said, adding, “I would hope that people learn that stories don’t have to be sad to make an impact (and) that my experiences are what many people go through and overcome.

“Crafton is not just a tool that allows low-income individuals to rise above their situation, but that it allows them to dream,” he said.

Luncheon reservations can be made by contacting Carrie Audet by email at caudet@craftonhills.edu or by phone at 909-389-3245.
