UCR Field Trip
Publish Date: Feb. 27, 2020
On Friday February 21st, 32 Crafton Hills College students attended the Community College Day Transfer Conference at University of California, Riverside. This event was coordinated to have an emphasis on Chicano/Latino and Native American cultural awareness and empowerment.
The Keynote address was given by Harvard graduate and UCR’s Dean of the Graduate School of Education, Dr. Louie Rodriguez, who earned his transfer degree from the San Bernardino Community College District. His inspirational address revolved around the significance of an academic family and the need for students to truly live their dream by openly discussing it with everyone who surrounds them during every moment of every day.
CHC students participated in workshops offered by all UCR colleges including the: School of Medicine; College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences; Bourns College of Engineering; College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences; Graduate School of Education; and the School of Business. Additional workshops were offered related to Self Esteem and Motivation to give students a well-rounded experience of college life after transfer. Students were provided lunch at the Lothian Residential Restaurant to give them a glimpse of dormitory life.
The day ended with laboratory tours of the Bourns College of Engineering and the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. Students were given a brief overview of earthquakes in California and participated in a hands-on virtual reality activity where they had the opportunity to soar over California to view fault systems. We would like to thank the Crafton Hills College Foundation for making this inspirational event possible.
