Bach to Beatles to Bono; Pavarotti to Presley to Paisley; Sinatra to Streisand to Swift… Students Rock! Tour is the theme for the annual Crafton Hills College (CHC) Foundation Gala scheduled for Saturday, March 28th. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. at the National Orange Show in San Bernardino. Attendees are encouraged to represent their favorite band or artist with t-shirts or costumes.

In addition to the rockin' and rollin' and lip synching going on, the Foundation will honor a Distinguished Alumnus. This year’s Distinguished Alumnus is Scott Hernandez. Hernandez graduated from CHC in 2001 with an associate’s degree in sociology. He was a first generation college student who embraced the experience, going on to UC Riverside for a bachelor's degree in creative writing and Chicano studies. He then completed an M.A. from CSU Northridge and culminated his education with an M.F.A. from the UC Riverside Writing for the Performing Arts program. "My experience at Crafton Hills gave me the foundation I needed to have a successful academic career," says Hernandez.

Hernandez has achieved his career goal of becoming a community college instructor. He is an assistant professor at Riverside City College and the advisor of the Film and Video Club. He also teaches at the UCR ARTSblock, where he is able to help high school students create films in the OFFTHEBLOCK summer film program.

Throughout the evening, participants will have an opportunity to help Crafton Hills College raise funds for firefighter training equipment, textbooks and tuition, a Veterans Center, and more. Tickets are $75 each and can be purchased online at www.craftonhills.edu/gala.

The Crafton Hills College Foundation was established in 1972.
