The Art of GOREilla on Exhibit at the Art Gallery Beginning September 17
Publish Date: Aug. 29, 2016
Under the name GOREilla, artist Sean Regalado's solo show, "Some Are More Equal Than Others: An Exploration of 'Feral,'" will be on exhibit at Crafton Hills College's Art Gallery September 17 through October 13.
An opening reception will be held on Saturday, September 17, from 6 to 9 p.m., followed by an artist talk on Thursday, September 29, from 3 to 4 p.m.
As GOREilla, Regalado has become known for his custom toys, pop culture likenesses and narrative sculptures. He considers himself a "nostalgic forealist with narrative tendencies," and loves "monsters, stories and a well-made toy." In this show, Regalado explores the notion of 'feral' as it relates to diverse cultural identities. His work has also been exhibited in San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
A Redlands native, Regalado received his bachelor's degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and his master's degree from the University of Redlands. For the last 20 years, he has taught art at schools in Redlands, and has spent the past eight years as an art and art history instructor at Crafton Hills College, where he is currently offering a sculpture class.
"This is a daring exhibition that challenges stereotypes, both as an artistic process as well as on the conceptual level," Snezana Petrovic, professor of art and gallery director, said. "I am sure it will inspire our students that are always eager to learn what kind of art their professors are producing. We hope that with this gallery season, the challenges of contemporary topics in art will create a dialogue between the CHC campus and the local community."
The Art Gallery is located in the Learning Resource Center (LRC) and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Parking fees will be waived for the opening reception and artist talk.
