Preparing Faculty for POCR

Deciding to participate in POCR is a big commitment.

We want to ensure that you feel prepared, supported, and ready. Here are three items that may help you determine if your online course is ready for POCR.

Online Training and Certification

At Crafton Hills College, we have two training expectations for all online instructors.

  1. Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) training. It is recommended that faculty complete the @ONE Introduction to Teaching with Canvas self-paced course or have significant prior experience using Canvas for educational purposes.
  2. Online Teaching & Learning Pedagogy Certification. This training requirement is met by either 1) completing the CHC Introduction to Asynchronous Online Teaching, Learning, and Accessibility cohort, 2) completing @ONE's Introduction to Asynchronous Online Teaching & Learning AND Creating Accessible Course Content, OR 3) having comparable training from another institution approved by the CHC DE Faculty Lead. Please see CHC Distance Education Training for more details.

If you have not completed Introduction to Asynchronous Online Teaching & Learning (CHC DE Certification) or equivalent as described above, then you cannot participate in POCR at this time. Please complete the CHC-approved certification training and commit to POCR in the future.

In addition to required trainings, we offer other optional self-paced 1-2 hour opportunities that help prepare faculty for POCR. These include:

Course Preparation and Familiarity with the Course Design Rubric

To qualify for the POCR process, courses must be:

  • Fully online
  • Asynchronous (no hybrid courses, no mandatory class meetings)
  • Permanently approved as a CHC online course
  • Part of an ADT (Associate Degree for Transfer), General Education Transfer Pattern (CSU or IGETC), or CTE (Career Technical Education)
  • Must have been taught in Canvas for at least one year
  • Should ideally be taught the semester following badging as the process typically involves reviewing a course that is currently being delivered to students, allowing for the most accurate assessment of its quality and alignment with the review criteria.

Self-Assessment

One important step in POCR is a self-assessment of your online course to see how aligned you think it is. To facilitate this process, we will use the Course Prep Form from CVC-OEI
